![]() On the other hand, by requiring people to actually pay something for their product, JRMC is able to keep evolving and refining their product.Īnd yet foobar2k has gone through how many versions now?įoobar2k support forums here are active and have been useful to a great many, me included. While some people may applaud the type of business model followed by foobar2000, in reality the customers of that type of business tend to treat the businesses with contempt. Foobar2000's software feels positively disjointed compared to JRMC. However, since so few people actually donate money to support foobar2000, its support forums are a mere shadow of JRMC's. Quote Foobar2000 is perfectly good if you're counting your nickles. As for sound, I don't expect any difference, as both Pono and Foobar are set up to output the same way to my DAC. I only have FLAC, WMA Lossless and MP3 files in my library, so I can't say if it works perfectly with every format. I haven't explored all of its capabilities (ripping/converting etc.), but as a media player, it is pretty good. The standard skin is very black and some of the alternatives are more legible. Lots of options for personalisation and it comes with a few skins preloaded too. It is slower to read my library folders than Foobar, but then isn't pretty much anything? I used to do it with WMP, but it doesn't do FLAC and has been playing up for a while now anyway. I find myself selecting different music when I'm browsing by image. I installed it a few weeks ago, partly just to play with it, but also because I like a second media player with a more graphic interface than Foobar. Technics SL1210 MK5 TT with Ortofon Stylus 40 (Super OM40) connected to Pro-ject Tube Box DS to Audient iD14 2 channel > USB on the PC > Virtual Cable > MC22 Live capture > JRiver DSP Izotope de-click and MRecorder > 24bit 96Khz WavMoney-saving tip - the Pono desktop software is, at heart, JRiver, only with a few differences like integration with the Pono Store. Recording Path with RIAA done prior to capture as I do it now with the Pro-ject Tube Box DS and Audient iD14 USB capture device. Technics SL1210 MK5 TT with Ortofon Stylus 40 (Super OM40) connected to M-Audio ADC 2 channel > USB on the PC > MC22 Live capture > DSP with RIAA and MRecorder > Wav My original Recording Path with a standard ADC that doesn't have RIAA Or you can use the free click-repair as a post rip process. ![]() When you run the VST in DSP studio just click the trial button. default installation directory is here> C:\Program Files (x86)\Steinberg\VstPlugins Just add the 32bit VST DLL to DSP studio in MC22. Installation of Izotope was straight forward. M-Recorder is free as part of a VST plugin pack I downloaded from here. Only use the 32bit VSTs in JRiver DSP studio (64bit VSTs don't work) You need to download the plugins and bits and pieces below (unless you setup Izotope RX plugin pack in JRiver)Īt first I used the JRiver WDM capture device (virtual soundcard loopback) in JRiver but the WDM virtual device doesn't support high sampling rates or 24bit so I ended up installing virtual cable and routing that to the live input in JRiver. So for offline work I think I'd recommend using Click Repair and then Vinyl Studio for the cutting and tagging. I spent ages trying them all on lead-ins and lead-outs from a few albums and Click Repair has least effect on the dynamics of the track and leaves no evidence of it's work. It leaves a lot of aliasing noise after the de-click compared to the others. Vinyl Studio De-click is not real great - it works but it's not as good as Click Repair or iZotope de-click. ![]() Vinyl Studio is a much easier solution though it's click removal isn't as good as click repair or the Izotope plugin I used in JRiver. I used JRiver just as an experiment because I originally didn't have an RIAA equalized input device. Project tube box DS MC22 capture by Hilton, on Flickr Here's the full detail of the journey over the last week or so.Īnd a video of the setup. ![]() Pro-ject Tube Box DS by Hilton, on Flickr Really nice setup that now allows me to listen to my vinyl with some room correction in JRiver MC22 powerful DSPs and run iZotope click removal in real-time as a VST plugin as well as record with MRecorder VST plugin with JRiver.īet you never thought you'd see JRiver doing Vinyl rips. Today I bought a Pro-ject Tube Box DS which has allowed me to replace the M-Audio and use the Tune Box DS into an Asus Essence STX II for 192/24bit capture. I've had a decent setup with Technics 1210 Mk5 and Ortofon Super OM40 for quite a few years and was playing around with digital RIAA correction in JRiver MC22 from an Instrument input on a M-Audio ADC. I've finally got around to setting up for ripping Vinyl to PC. ![]()
